ABSTRACT

Empowered with the intent to acknowledge the expectations of faster time-to-market, fostered by both users and vendors, integrating Agile Project Management techniques and practices helped the Electronic Health Record project in unanticipated ways. For Centra, leadership has very visibly embraced Lean principles at the enterprise level for the organization and, since Agile is based on Lean principles, the leadership support remained. Agile skills would positively impact vital areas of the enterprise, such as data warehouse and analytic initiatives, requiring quick deliverable turnaround to the end user. Agile methodologies preach that people must be allowed to fail so the team can learn from those mistakes, enact continuous improvement and execute more successfully in the future. A hybrid approach, of both Traditional and Agile practices, may suit the project teams better. In order to use a hybrid approach, collaborative and transparent decision-making needs to occur.
