ABSTRACT

In this concluding chapter there is a summary of the previous chapters. There is acknowledgement of the work of other scholars’ work and of the surveys of popular beliefs in an afterlife. There is acknowledgement of the key part played by an intermediate state in the films. There is consideration of a dealing with the notions of spatio-temporal and personal continuity between the states of thislife and afterlife existence. There is acknowledgement that in our films some form of embodiment is seen as necessary but usually one appropriate to the environment, material or non-material. It notes also the role played by contact or communication between dead and living in our films, usually one which takes place in an intermediate space, and which is often purposed to make use of that space to resolve matters left unresolved from the past life.
