ABSTRACT

In the business environment, people can use negative words with others to condemn them, threaten them, and complain about their unproductive behaviour. Positive words have a powerful priming effect on people, prompting them to experience positive emotions and dwell on positive circumstances. In the business and work environments, words can be used in a loving manner: for instance, to acknowledge and praise stakeholders, empower them, support them, and express gratitude to them. A very large amount of words commonly used in the business environment have a negative connotation. The use of positive language in the business environment is not limited to spoken words. Any criticism expressed to a company’s stakeholders should be delivered in a non-harmful manner. The person who delivers the criticism should always probe for any external reason which might have affected the other person’s behaviour to avoid assuming that this behaviour is related to this individual’s characteristics.
