ABSTRACT
THE caravan consisted of twenty camels, three donkeys and my Buran. Our goal was the source of the Cherchen-darya river in the Tibetan highlands. During the journey Bergman was to look for places for archaeological excavation and I to examine anthropologically such people as we chanced to meet with.
