ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an overview of the key concepts that frame the book. These are: the (deliberately lowercase) global south, its shifting representations and the place of Africa within it; the border, which is defined not simply as a geopolitical demarcation line but also in relation to a multiplicity of socioeconomic and cultural collectivity boundaries; translation as a political concept; and media and cultural studies approaches for the digital age.
