ABSTRACT

This chapter will highlight the therapeutic use of books with students who are experiencing racial injury or trauma. Issues such as the lack of diversity within children's books and the importance of having characters of color as models for children will be discussed. There will be a specific focus on how to conceptualize and apply bibliotherapy with this population. Specifically, this chapter will highlight the four steps of bibliotherapy, the benefits for children and adolescents, and recommendations of useful books that apply to racial trauma and related identity concerns.
