ABSTRACT

Before diving a bit into the world of “commercials” it is important to understand a distinction between “advertising content” and television commercials. At every level in the commercial industry there is someone who wants to be sure that they are covering themselves. It is very hard to break into commercial work until one have a reel and history of work in commercials to back it up. Within commercials colorists will also be expected to have done a lot of work within that specific genre. Getting into commercials is thus often done through either blind luck, or apprenticeship, and commercial clients, once won, are guarded fiercely. When marketing oneself in commercials, the expectation is that they put complete spots on their website. The most important element in a commercial is the client. Commercials are also a fascinating world where the director is not king.
