ABSTRACT

Color grading is one of the areas of filmmaking that has changed the most in the last few decades. Color has the potential to be one of the most rewarding and enjoyable aspects of the filmmaking process. Whether colorists are going to pursue working in the color arena or simply read to be a better client and collaborator, hopefully they have a better appreciation for just how powerful the grading process can be and some of the tools they’ll have at their disposal to achieve their artistic visions. With new technologies like HDR, the continual “right around the corner” promise of Stereo3D and VR about to take over, and countless new platforms and avenues for distribution, color grading and other post-production skills could change even more over the next few decades than they already have.
