ABSTRACT

By November all the children are settled in the preschool, and therefore staffs are able to make decisions about how, when and if to interact with each child. November is often the month when the weather changes to become much wetter and colder, and in the 2–3 room, this brings extra work for staff as they strive to ensure that children remain warm and dry without restricting access to outdoors. For many children in the 2–3 room, the access to scissors is a new and enticing experience. Many children in the 2–3 room play alongside their peers, but occasionally, and more often as they get older, more social play becomes apparent. The November weather has been wet and cold, but the staff and children have continued to play and learn both indoors and outside, overcoming challenges and supporting each other. As November comes to an end, the individual children have become a ‘group’ with its own mini-culture and character.
