ABSTRACT
One of the major events that occurred in April was that the woodwork bench was introduced. Woodwork is the perfect activity in which children can demonstrate the characteristics of effective learning: Playing and exploring – children investigate and experience things, and ‘have a go’, Active learning – children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties, and enjoy achievements and Creating and thinking critically – children have and develop their own ideas, make links between ideas, and develop strategies for doing things. Staple Hill Stars Pre-school is in a city, adjacent to a car park with very little ‘green space’ or trees etc. The staffs at the preschool continue to review the resources and reflect on the levels of involvement that they deliver. For some children, visual cues on cards are helpful as well, and several children have recently become interested in these.
