ABSTRACT
During the month of May, some of the children in the 2–3 room demonstrated a leap in their development in terms of their increased awareness of their environment and also in their awareness of differences and similarities to other children. Every time there are opportunities to cook, we see deep involvement and enjoyment in the children. Sharing the melon was one example of the increasing awareness of other children that is evident in the group. This increased awareness amongst the children means that the staff can continue to work on the children’s negotiation skills. Another event occurred which led to a further development of awareness about differences amongst families; a new baby visited the setting. Throughout the year, the staff review and reflect on the resources in the preschool, and if there is any extra money then decisions are made very carefully about how this should be spent.
