ABSTRACT
The children who are joining the preschool already visited the setting in July but, for such young children, that can be a distant memory. The events that take place in September will be the most powerful in terms of helping the children to feel secure in the preschool environment and therefore keen to stay, even without a parent, eventually. The visit will also reveal some aspects of the child’s experiences in the home. The visit is also a good opportunity to see how the parents/carers interact with their child and how the child responds, how confident their speech is and how behaviour is handled. All families are invited to spend time at the setting with their child. For some children, just one or two visits will be enough to give the child enough confidence to be ready to be left without a parent/carer.
