ABSTRACT

This chapter will build on the ideas discussed throughout the book and consider how the early years practitioner can examine their own attitudes and assumptions about gender. The reader will be challenged to consider any stereotypical thinking they may hold about gender and encouraged to challenge the stereotypical thinking of their peers. The chapter considers where these stereotypes might have emerged from and how they are reinforced. It will draw on up-to-date research to think about what the implications are for young children and for practice if those who work in early years settings are encouraged to disrupt gendered discourses and scripts.
