ABSTRACT

The chapter will explore whether the concepts of care and caring have a gendered nature; it will discuss how caring as an attribute can be linked to biological or social forces. It will examine whether gendered differences to caring exist, for example if there is evidence to support the idea that this is something that women do best, or whether there is simply a perception that this is the case. The chapter will also consider what the implications for young children are if they are only looked after by women and thereby come to perceive caring as a female attribute.
