ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at some of the key cases of intrusion into privacy that have reached the courts or the regulators to give guidance on the decisions of the courts and regulators in the UK on important privacy cases. It deals with a straightforward case that made the courts but on charges of being drunk on board an aeroplane rather than privacy. The incident was described by other passengers in the business class cabin who saw the whole affair and the couple’s state of undress and physical closeness and it’s for the reason that the couple cannot claim a reasonable expectation to privacy. The Princess took her case to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, arguing that the decisions of the German courts infringed her right to privacy and her right to respect for her family life. The Loreena McKennitt privacy case was heard in the High Court, handing judgment to Ms McKennitt.
