ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of the range of home care agencies and services. With the development of a broad landscape of agencies, it has become easier for older people in need of care and their families to access live-in care. Information about live-in care is generally easy to access. Although the topic of live-in care work has only become prominent in public discussions and the media, it is important to keep in mind that live-in care work in Switzerland is not entirely new. Although care agencies have been placing live-in care workers from Eastern Europe in countries such as Germany and Austria for quite some time, most care agencies in Switzerland have only arisen since the extension of the free movement of workers to the new accession states in 2011. The scope of the live-in care market is difficult to grasp, in part because the Swiss government lacks means to systematically collect data on live-in care services.
