ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the case study of a Mei. Meifang, or Mei as she prefers to be called mentions in passing that she had been married for seven or eight years. Mei’s experience at the hospital not only broadened her professional training but it also put her in contact with many health professionals who had that faith. Her supervisor was a neuroscientist who had just returned from Belgium and his devotion to Christianity fed her interest in religion and again ignited her soul-searching and inner drive. Everything is different in Australia, challenging Mei’s personal and professional identity. Mei knew that she would have to move to larger urban centres to develop confidence and capability to move overseas; a prospect that was envisaged with optimism and excitement. Soon after she graduated, Mei took the first step to an international nursing career.
