ABSTRACT

Organizational and Systems Consultation (OSC) is a consultative model that targets the system as the mechanism of change to benefit students. OSC perspectives draw upon the interrelationships between embedded social systems in schools and communities. Bronfenbrenner’s ecological-developmental perspective is frequently the foundation that underpins OSC; using this theoretical perspective, OSC can be implemented at various concentric contexts, depending upon the problem or issue that is being addressed. In this chapter, four general consultative models (e.g., ecological organization consultation, collaborative strategic planning, organizational development consultation, and intervention assistance consultation) that have been proposed in the adoption of a systems perspective will be reviewed and discussed, along with the evidence that exists in supporting such approaches.
