ABSTRACT

Building on Chapter 2, a number of techniques exist within contextual behavioral practices geared toward deepening vulnerability and building interpersonal intimacy within meaningful relationships. SGM individuals experience difficulties related to familial rejection, shame, and interpersonal bias or discrimination. These experiences are associated with the development of rejection sensitivity and subsequent loneliness or poor quality relationships. This chapter will emphasize the principles of functional analytic psychotherapy, which uses the therapeutic relationship to build and promote the generalization of meaningful, authentic relationships.
