ABSTRACT
Chapter 11 of ARM 4th Ed is entitled Rasch Modeling Applied: Rating Scale Design. Anyone who has taught survey construction, or attempted to construct such a scale has encountered the numerous options available for developing response options. This chapter introduces the empirical evidence that should be used to examine the efficacy and meaning of using a variety of response category options. A variety of Rasch-based techniques are used to improve rating scale performance of existing data and to provide insights for improving future data collection.
