ABSTRACT

Chapter 13 of ARM 4th Ed is entitled A Synthetic Overview and re-affirms the crucial role of substantive theory in constructing measures in the human sciences. The authors outline key differences between the predictive function and properties of Rasch measures and the descriptive function of traditional True Score Theory statistics and Item Response Theory parameters. It attempts a small contribution to some sort of productive communication between measurement theoreticians and those involved in everyday research by focusing on the construction of fundamental measures via Rasch-informed instrumentation.
