ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 of ARM 4th Ed is entitled Basic Principles of the Rasch Model. This chapter presents the pathway analogy we originated in 2001 to explain the basic concepts of the Rasch model. The analogy is quite directly applicable to observations in many aspects of education and psychology, and its relevance for the other measurement situations in the human sciences. The high jump exemplar from the previous chapter is used to introduce a formal statement of the Rasch model as well as basic ideas of the Rasch item characteristic curve (ICC).
