ABSTRACT

Two of the dimensions, the ethical and the social, together present an important area of religious understanding, often neglected in schools, which is the relationship of the religious adherent to the world at large. All religions lay upon their followers certain ethical rules or principles which should govern their conduct or behaviour. The ethical dimension of religions stress matters as caring for the poor or helping those in need. Religions do have within themselves a vision of how the world ought to be and convictions about the relationship of human being with human being and human being with the world at large. There are many, both within religious communities and without who draw a clear line between the sacred and the secular, and argue that the only proper sphere of activity for religions is the sacred. A significant aspect of religious education has always been the individual case study or biography.
