ABSTRACT

In 1932, in his seminars on Kundalini yoga, Jung discussed the parallels between the process of awakening Kundalini and his postulations on the individuation process. The case he used to illustrate it was the case of Reichstein. He understood her symptoms and the images in her dreams symbolically, relating them to the activation of the chakras. The crucial point in Jung’s postulation was that Reichstein’s psychic conflicts were related to her difficulties in adapting the European mentality to her Eastern background. However, Jung’s understanding of her case must be discussed critically, because important elements for her condition, which can be found in her personal story, were not present in his description of her case. Jung highlighted some elements to support his theorising and did not mention others.
