ABSTRACT
This chapter offers a few novel examples, in which Stefan Dollinger applies some of the methods used on Canadian English and the Dictionary of Canadianisms on Historical Principles, www.dchp.ca/dchp2. They include and reveal Austrian dimensions in terms and expression that one would not usually expect and that pluri-areal methods have not captured. A typology of Austrianisms, based on the Canadian experience, is offered with six types and a non-Austrian type, as testing for Austrian status can only be done, in keeping with Popper, via falsification, not with verification. The examples come from the area of lexis and usage studies, text linguistics and corpus linguistics, phraseology and formulaic language as well as language enregisterment, using Asif Agha’s concept and Barbara Johnstone’s applications thereof.
