ABSTRACT

Intimacy dates are the single most important strategy in preventing relapse and reinforcing relational satisfaction. Intimacy involves sharing a range of feelings and experiences, hurt and angry feelings as well as loving, caring, and bonding experiences. An advantage of an intimate and sexual marriage is that you feel accepted and loved for who you really are, both your strengths and vulnerabilities. Intimacy dates range from a one-hour talk on the porch with a beer to a couple trip to a resort for a week without children. Some intimacy dates are nonphysical, some affectionate, some sensual, some playful, some erotic, and some involve intercourse. Emotional intimacy nurtures your bond, while sexual intimacy energizes your bond. Intimacy dates are a prime means to generalize gains in sexual desire and to prevent relapse. Intimacy dates have value in themselves as well as serving as a bridge to sexual desire. Intimate attachment in good times and bad is a prime component of a satisfying, secure, and sexual relationship.
