ABSTRACT

Accountants and business men are studying the trust—using the name in a general sense and not in the least as a term of reproach—as a feature of the business situation and as a development in the general process of business evolution. The following account of an important meeting of railway accountants is from the Street Railway Journal, weekly news edition, of July 15. The June meeting of the Hartford Chapter of the Institute of Accounts was held on the evening of the 27th of that month. There is also a column headed “Accounts Payable,” in which should be placed the amounts of checks drawn for accounts in the “Purchase Record.” While accounting principles are inflexible, bookkeeping details can be adjusted to suit any and every requirement. The bookkeeping details usually employed with the Balance Sheet System of Accounts are simpler and more economical of labor than those in common use.
