ABSTRACT
The organization and flow of the integrative model are informed by a series of grounded theory research studies conducted by the author. After utilizing results to guide the shape and direction of the model, complementary theories and skills were integrated to add range and depth to its application in counseling. Weaving the recommendations of the model together for application requires an understanding of the basic tenets guiding the approach. Though presented in a linear fashion for the purposes of the text, the application of the model is best facilitated as a circular process. With a foundational and integrative model at their roots, counselors have a place to return to when lost, when needing to remember core tenets of the work, or when complicated couple processes need simplification for a place to begin. Counselors must be invested in their own personal work to remain effective for the couples they serve.
