ABSTRACT

The contempt in which some men affect to hold accounting argues ill for their business intelligence. The mere law of natural selection, the survival of the fittest, will weed out from the business world those who see no advantage in better accounting, while permitting and fostering an increase of those who profit by the best accounting that skill can provide. The sessions of the convention of the Street Railway Accountants were well attended, and throughout affairs were conducted in a business-like manner. The science of accounting, says “The Timberman,” is one that is too much neglected. While every business man, in theory, at least, admits its importance, there are very few men comparatively who have brought accounting to a point where it can be called an exact science. Accountants and office men generally appreciate this refinement in keeping track of stock on hand, where frequent reports are required.
