ABSTRACT

This chapter describes various types of free or low-cost technologies available. Because of the rapid pace of innovation in teaching technology, some of the tools included might have changed and new tools will likely have arisen to perform the same functions as the ones described. Before deciding what teaching technology to use, and how to use it, think beyond the question of what is available and what it is designed to do. Rather than trying to create an exhaustive list of the teaching technology tools available, we offer a description of the tools that work for us. Before the teachers start building their slide deck using these or other technologies, they carefully consider what to say. The teachers create lecture outline first and then they think about slide design. The higher the number of students using a particular polling technology, the more likely it is that the technology will fail for someone.
