ABSTRACT

Remuneration and social benefits contribute to a considerable item of expenditure in the transport industry. The greatest possible equalization of social conditions of the personnel in the different branches of the transport industry is one of the most important prerequisites of fair competition. In the modern welfare state every individual is entitled to social security in case of invalidity or after reaching the age limit. The social security of the workers and their dependants in case of illness, unemployment and temporary invalidity must be safeguarded in a satisfactory manner. Any proposals for the coordination of transport put forward by the I.T.F. will, for obvious reasons, attach particular importance to the way in which social questions are treated. In times of full employment the transport industry can only rely on a high quality and reliable labour force if the standard of living it provides is at least on a level with that of other industries.
