ABSTRACT

The relationship between the healthcare worker and the patient is grounded in more respect for trust and ethical principles. Patient autonomy strives toward equality in this partnership that changes a relatively new relationship; a significant change in law and medicine will change the relation. Understanding the importance of morality is the most important outcome in any societies in the medical profession. The central theme of building trust is honesty and trustworthiness brought on a professional, organizational, and individual level. The pendulum is swinging from the physician–healthcare worker decision toward absolute patient autonomy, and the emphasis on relationship and trust building is becoming more critical. The legal aspect of the medical profession that every physician and healthcare practitioner is concerned with to some degree is to avoid the involvement of a medical malpractice lawsuit. The physician’s ability to accept the reality, recognize the responsibility, and remedy might always be visible when an apology is appropriate.
