ABSTRACT

Patient participation is essential for good outcomes. Educating patients with more primary care physicians or providers in health clinics in rural areas is necessary to make the patients realize their rights and duties to be able to get the best care. Shared decision-making from the National Health System in England is reported to be process in which patients work together with clinicians. The examination videotapes of participants were evaluated and independently assessed for shared decision-making. Involving patients in making decisions is as tricky as communicating the risks. Patients participate in decision-making by asking questions, obtaining/providing information, and choosing from/presenting different alternatives. Participation in care is essential and has a financial benefit. Increasing the involvement of patients in healthcare decision-making may prolong the stays in hospital and increase the cost of care, according to the findings from a new US study.
