ABSTRACT

Zeta reached a vociferous apex as an attorney in the early seventies. He wanted a more active role in la revolución. Ser un heroe, a more prominent stand alongside other luminaries of The New Nation of Aztlán. To achieve more recognition, he devised a sophisticated strategy: He would attract more media attention, when possible would behave even more outrageously, and more important, he would run for public office under an independent platform. His party would be La Raza Unida. Written on his personal stationery displaying an Aztec letter style, his press release dated February 23, 1970, from his home, 5327 East Beverly Boulevard, in Los Angeles, declaring his candidacy for sheriff of Los Angeles County (population: 7,000,000), asked acquaintances to support him in his political career. "The history of Los Angeles County is one of violence, vice and corruption in high places," he wrote.
