This essay was stirred by a sophisticated, low-key debate between Keynesians and monetarists in the March 1981 issue of The Economic Journal, As the text indicates, James Meade had constructed for the occasion a rather complex diagram exhibiting various combinations of the two gospels with an empty box for lost souls, if any.
