ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book analyzes US international economic policy and the interactions involved in its formulation. It discusses, among other issues, the effects of US policy on Latin American economies and trade relations and the policies of international financial agencies. The book deals with US domestic economic policy and explores the international repercussions of this policy. It analyses economic relations between Latin America and the United States and presents conclusions and recommendations on possible concerted action by Latin American nations. The Panama declaration contains a number of criteria and objectives that Latin American countries should establish and promote in the context of their relations with the United States.
