ABSTRACT

The Challenge from a Nicaraguan Village

The afternoon shadows filled the dusty yard and nearly covered the cornfield beyond. In the twilight, a one-room house of wooden slats leaned precariously against a fence. It, like the rest of the houses in the village, had no electricity, water, or plumbing and looked like it might blow down in a big wind. A rusty can filled with yellow flowers hung from the open window.
