ABSTRACT

The conclusions and insights presented in this chapter focus principally on the educational aspects of the literacy campaign, especially issues related to curriculum, methodology, and training. In a varying degree of detail, other issues are also examined, such as the social context in which the campaign evolved, the crusade's organizational structure, its transition to an ongoing adult education program, its use of international assistance, and its effectiveness in reaching its overall goals. In order to determine and analyze major program conclusions, this discussion draws upon the critical reflection undertaken by the planners themselves, both during and after the campaign. Certain issues have been selected because they may provide insights to other nations that might consider such an endeavor in a similar moment of transition and transformation. An appraisal of the campaign's overall accomplishments concludes the study.
