ABSTRACT

After Christianity had been securely established, human history came to a turning point. The stress shifted to a new scene of action, it began moving northward to the European mainland, and the whole direction of events, the whole trend of evolution prepared to change. The Roman Empire has often been compared to the British Empire, or vice versa, as both of them had a similar way of dealing with the foreign peoples under their domination. Thus the Roman administration was not as a rule despotic. The abrupt break of tribal bonds made of these tribesmen lost, desolate individuals, incapable of grasping the too high ideals of Christianity and of the empire. In comparing the disintegrated Roman Empire with the Germanic tribes that were prematurely interrupted in their tribal development, it becomes obvious that, although both developed from different origins, they were converging to the same point, the point where a new evolution begins.
