ABSTRACT
Thispaperexaminesthefirst-termattritionofmalehighschoolgraduatesinthe military.Specifically,itfocusesongraduateswhoenteredthemilitarywithoutprior serviceexperience,asrepresentedbytheNationalLongitudinalStudyoftheHigh SchoolClassof1972(NL5-72).Thepopulationofmalehighschoolgraduatesisan importantgrouptoexamine.Asidefromtheoverwhelmingpredominanceofmales amongaccessions(about90%),graduatesrepresenttheprimarytargetgroupfor militaryrecruiting.Further,almost95%ofenlisteesenterbetweentheagesof17and 21,aperiodencompassedbytheNL5-72.
