ABSTRACT
Living at my mother's home in Shanghai, I continued to watch Kaishek's military activities. He had consolidated his positions in Kiukiang and Nanchang, and his armies were placed on the alert. He realized his best chance of survival would be to capture Nanking and to quickly establish a rival government there. Thus, with renewed energies, he hurriedly worked toward that end.
