ABSTRACT

Lenin's Revolution had been essentially political. It had completed the destruction of the Imperial regime initiated by the March Revolution; had suppressed all Russian socialist parties other than the Bolshevik; and had set up a Bolshevik dictatorship over the whole Russian people. Stalin's Revolution began as a result of shortages in the food supply to the towns. The peasants, having more land than before 1917, ate more food. Scarcity of consumer goods deprived them of incentive to grow more crops or to sell more of what they grew. The most important feature of the industrial policy in the Five Year Plan periods was mobilistion of labour. Jobs which in an advanced industrial country would be done by one skilled worker with a machine could only be done, in the shortage of skilled workers and machines, by several pairs of bare hands.
