ABSTRACT

If Danish, German, and Norwegian forces are not sufficient to defend the northern flank of NATO, the question arises as to the prospects for receiving reinforcements. There is no definitive answer to this question. As the military like to put it, it would depend on the situation. First, it would hinge on what demands there were elsewhere for allied forces. Second, it would depend on timely decisions by governments. Finally, it would depend on the preparations made for allied forces in advance. Official statements on these questions are not always an adequate guide to the realities.
