ABSTRACT
In discussing military matters, there is the danger of focusing exclusively on war fighting. Military forces, however, also play a role in peacetime. This is particularly true of naval forces, which are ideal for demonstrations of power. In recent years, the nordic countries have gradually expanded their horizons. Rather than limiting their discussion of strategic matters to their armies and air forces, they have become more conscious of what is going on in the waters around them.
