Lothar Erdmann spent his childhood in Halle, where his father was a professor of philosophy. After the war he worked for the Trade Union International in Amsterdam and simultaneously held a post with Wolff Telegraph Office. At the outbreak of war, on 1 September 1939, Lothar Erdmann was arrested by the Gestapo for 'preventive reasons'.
