ABSTRACT
In the first place, before being sworn in, I was obliged to undergo a rigid physical and medical examination. According to the requirements, I must have good eyesight, good hearing, a strong head and good lungs, be sound in all joints with no stiff fingers, have a good color sense, sound teeth, subject to no chronic or hereditary disease, of good moral character, and not addicted to strong drink etc. etc. I must also be of a proper height, weight, and other measurements and, of course, be able to speak, read, and write English, and was required to give my name in full, age, date and place of birth, names and addresses of parents, and some other information - just what it was I have forgotten. 1
