For reasons unknown, two months elapse before Charlie again writes to Clare. Clare, however, persevered, sending five letters to Charlie's none. We note that the monitor Monadnock has moved from Canton, China, to the main U. S. Naval Base at Cavite, Manila Bay, the Philippines.
