ABSTRACT

In Latin America, neoliberal policies attempt to impede access to education for millions of children, youth, and adults. The planned reduction of public educational services leaves behind a path of destruction and devastation. The succession from generation to generation is the process or site in which the impossibility of an absolute present is most radically expressed. "Generation" means a succession of descendants, production by natural or artificial processes, and in its most conservative sense, procreation or the propagation of a species. The reformist generation confronted the specters and spirits in its manifesto. It took upon itself the legacy of an era in which all ideas seemed to be dispersed. This generation took upon itself the meanings generated by the independence of Latin American countries and proclaimed, "We are embarking on a revolution, we are living the American hour." Distinct concepts of integration can be found in the history of Latin America.
