ABSTRACT

One aspect of key concern to the industry is future demand for air travel and air cargo services. Among the other forces influencing the future of US large transports are the plans and strategies of foreign competitors, fuel prices, trends in airline and aircraft production ownership, factors affecting technology development and transfer, and developments and trends in regulatory systems affecting aircraft production, sale and use. The Importantly, industry participation in government oversight of the Aircraft Agreement is provided for through the Industry Sector Advisory Committee system that has been established to provide the US Government with data, analysis and policy recommendations on trade matters. Delays and uncertainties relating to procedures and regulations, the lengthy case-by-case approach required in certain regulatory procedures, and the cost associated with export license preparation, justification and progress monitoring, it is argued, are damaging both to the imaginativeness and competitiveness of US goods and services.
