ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the more personal aspects involved in the interpretation of research results. It explores two factors associated with the utilization of data in applied research. First, an attitude of flexibility in the analysis of data prevents researchers from becoming constrained by tradition to the point that they are unable to understand what their data are trying to tell them. The second aspect of data utilization to be covered is the presentation of the results so clients can adequately understand the implications of the project and use the results accordingly in their decision-making processes. Flexibility in interpretation refers to researcher capability to comprehend what the data and analyses mean and how the relationships expressed can help the client in decision making. The sophisticated client will also want information on the data collecting procedure and the analyses which were used.
